From 20th to 21st April 2022, the Rwanda Union of the Blind, (RUB), hosted a training for 20 participants among them are the board, sub-committee and staff members, to equip them with skills and knowledge on safeguarding policy to ensure proper implementation of that policy within Rwanda Union of the Blind.

The training was organized as part of the project entitled: “Accessible Reading Materials: Dignity of Persons with Visual Impairment” which is funded by Disability Rights Fund/Disability Rights Advocacy Fund”

Safeguarding RUB’s beneficiaries, staff, sub-committee members and board members and having a workplace from any harm is fundamental to the Rwanda Union of the Blind (RUB) in all its activities and programmes.

Central to everything, RUB is committed to “do no harm” and to respecting the rights of all our beneficiaries, staffing groups and partners.

As expected, participants in the training are not only equipped with skills on the safeguarding policy and its implementation process but also with skills on how to report violation of incidences to enhance accountability, transparency and confidentiality towards the policy.

About Rwanda Union of the Blind

RUB has strengthened and extended the scope of its activities by establishing branches in almost all districts of the country. Currently, RUB has 64 well-established branches in 30 districts.

RUB promotes the rights of people with visual impairment through advocacy assistance, education and outreach work to build Rwandan society awareness and support for inclusion. Its members are supported in a wide range of situations, including cases where they have been denied their right to education, to work, to live independently, to access a good standard of healthcare and to enjoy participating in family and community life.
