Kigali: The Rwanda Union of the Blind is organizing a training for some teachers from schools accommodating learners with visual impairment on the use of Orbit reader 20 as an identified edu-tech solution to support the education of learners with visual impairment.

The 5 days training on the use of Orbit reader 20 and 3 days training on repair and maintenance of braille machines for the teachers from 5 schools (GS HVP Gatagara Rwamagana, Kibeho Educational Institute for the Blind, Blessing School for the Visually Impaired, GS Gahini and Ubumwe Community Center) is scheduled to take place from the 28th March to 3rd April 2022 and will be facilitated by skilled trainers from Kenya and RUB as well.

According to the organizers, after this training, on April 4th 2022, there will be an official launch of the use of this device during a ceremony that will take place at Kigali Convention Center.

The main objective of the training is to equip teachers with skills that will enable them to support learners with visual impairment at their respective schools to access the educational content for inclusive and equitable quality education which will in the near future bring ground-breaking access to books and other educational content to learners with visual impairment.

The training will take place at Honey in Honey Motel located in Kamonyi district near Nyabarongo river.
