The Rwanda Union of the Blind (RUB) has, on Wednesday, conducted a half day workplace  training for staff from 24 Libraries on accessible and inclusive services for persons with visual impairment.

The training gathered  27 participants made of staff who have regular contacts with library users from Kigali Public Library and community libraries.

Apart from dispatching knowledge on accessible and inclusive services for persons with visual impairment, the training also serves as an opportunity to raise awareness on obstacles and challenges affecting persons with visual impairment in accessing library services and enabling participants to grasp the importance of accessibility and inclusion in service provision. This has also an opportunity to demonstrate them how persons with visual impairment who may attend libraries should be assisted to get the services.

In support of its mission and in the consonance of UNCRPD and SDGs provisions, RUB organizes training and workshop sessions for government and private institutions aiming to have workplaces and services inclusive of persons with visual impairment

The practice developed by RUB gives service providers of all kinds such as organizations,  schools, libraries among others the knowledge and skills that they need to provide accessible and inclusive services for people with visual impairment and create an environment that is accessible and inclusive for all.

The goal is to reduce inequality and improve the inclusion and accessibility for persons with visual impairment in everyday life, in all areas of life by ensuring accessible and inclusive services.
