Masaka Resource Centre for the Blind (MRCB) is a beacon of hope, offering mobility training and vocational skills to individuals with visual impairments. Located in Masaka, in Kicukiro District, in the Kigali City, the center is dedicated to empowering visually impaired persons through practical training programs that equip them with essential life and work skills.

Equipping Persons with Visual Impairments

At MRCB, mobility training remains a core program. Learning to navigate the environment safely and independently is crucial for persons with visual impairments. The center provides instruction in orientation and mobility, enabling beneficiaries to move confidently within their surroundings and access opportunities beyond their immediate environment.

In addition to mobility training, MRCB provides a range of skill-building activities to ensure self-sufficiency and economic empowerment.

Some of the key courses include:

Knitting: They are taught how to knit various items, including sweaters, scarves, and household textiles, giving them the ability to create products for personal use or sale.

Braille Education:  As literacy is a foundation for learning and communication, the center offers braille training, ensuring that Persons with visual impairments can read and write effectively.

Massage Therapy: Through hands-on training, participants learn professional massage techniques, equipping them with skills to establish a career in therapy and wellness services.

Agriculture and Animal Husbandry:  Engaging in farming and livestock rearing provides them with opportunities to generate income and contribute to food security. These skills help them integrate into agricultural communities or start their own small-scale farming enterprises.

The Need for Support:

Running these essential programs takes great effort and resources. From acquiring teaching materials to maintaining facilities and compensating instructors, MRCB relies on goodwill from donors, volunteers, and organizations committed to empowering persons with disabilities. Any form of support—whether financial assistance, donations of training equipment, or technical expertise—plays a crucial role in sustaining these life-changing initiatives.

Masaka Resource Centre for the Blind continues to create opportunities and transform lives through its dedicated training programs. By fostering independence and self-reliance among Persons with visual impairments, the center ensures that they can pursue meaningful careers and contribute to their communities.

Through collective support, MRCB can expand its impact and provide even more resources to individuals striving for a brighter future.

For those looking to make a difference, supporting the center’s programs is one way to contribute to an inclusive society where individuals with visual impairments can thrive.
